Job Title: Farmers Market Lead for organic produce farm
Department: Marketing
Reports To: Farm Owner, Celia Barss
Pay: $20/hour
Hours: 10 hours/Saturdays; 4:45AM-2:45PM; must be available 3 out of 4 Saturdays every month at a minimum
Primary Function: This position acts as one of 2 representatives from our farm, Woodland Gardens, that attend our farmers market, Freedom Farmers Market, in Atlanta each Saturday. They are responsible for double checking market supplies and materials, securely loading product at the farm, driving those materials to market, orchestrating market stand set up, managing Atlanta based market workers, providing premium customer service and product familiarity while representing our farm professionally, fully maintaining the stand during operating hours, using safety and efficiency to break down the stand, returning all supplies safely and neatly to the farm at the end of market and filling out market reports and corresponding duties accurately.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Double checks all necessary materials for markets and loads remaining necessities securely. Including but not limited to: tables, canopy, cashbox, signs, vegetables, fruits, and flowers.
Site set-up, maintenance, sales, with supporting Market Associates. This can include setting up tables, canopies, writing accurate signs and banners, and merchandising the market site with appealing displays that facilitate efficient sales flow.
While on site at our farmers market provides premium sales service to all customers. This includes product knowledge, actively engaged presence and personable interactions.
Responsible for accurately recording returns, market worker wages and making notes of any donations.
During load, sales, pack, and return, maintain attention to quality and handling of produce and supplies. This includes loading to avoid tipping or shifting, setup and transport that maximize the space in the vans and keep vegetables out of direct sunlight at market, packing leftovers at end of market, and returning everything to the farm at the end of market
Performs other duties as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Passion for local farming and/or the agriculture industry
Ability to operate and present professionally and positively in a sales representative position.
Ability to operate safely in the workplace.
Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, accurately and fluidly promoting our farm
Enthusiasm, good attitude, trustworthiness, personal integrity, and honesty.
Ability to work autonomously and distinguish when to delegate or ask for input.
Attention to detail, being mindful of asset security, market stall state, and employee/customer relations.
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:
Some experience in service, agriculture, sales and/or marketing positions.
Accurate and quick basic mental math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, discount calculation)
Well-developed communication skills.
Ability to securely and safely drive a larger vehicle (Sprinter Van) with a safe driving record.
Ability to successfully pass a driver’s license screening with our insurance company.
Availability June-December (with opportunity to continue next year also)
Reliability: no call outs day-of and timeliness is a must.
Attendance: 75% or higher throughout the market season (this allows for vacation days so long as shifts can be covered between other employees)
Physical Requirements:
Able to bend, kneel, slide, shuffle, push, and pull 30-50 lbs safely and independently.
Able to tolerate extreme temperatures and/or weather safely while maintaining a good attitude.
Able to stand and maintain attention for shift entirety, we do not sit or phone scroll at Market.
Available to work at early hours (~4:45am) on Saturday and for 10 hours/day.
Performance Standards:
Positive customer feedback about service (and/or low/lack of negative)
Low/no percentage of discrepancy between recorded sales and monetary calculations
Maintaining and/or increasing market gross sales, weekly and annually.
Reliability and Attendance record
Bonus Eligibility is contingent on farm profitability at the end of November as well as market attendance during the committed season.
